10$ ART

For my 3D design class our first assignment was learning about scale. To accomplish this, we were required to create a piece as large as we could with only 10 dollars. I created this piece below with seven 2"x 1"x 8' pieces of wood at 75 cents each, metal bracket supports, wire, and 25 trash bags fused together with an iron. Specifically, it is a five sided, inverse pyramid with the tip (bottom) cut off and a diagonal slice off the base (top). The dimensions are approximately 7' X 10'. My planning involved a lot of geometry. I felt it was quite successful.

500 Days of Summer

I cannot wait until July 24th! I watched this trailer -- times. It looks wonderful - good music, creative interpretation, relatively clean, clever, and enjoyable acting.

Tap Project

How many times have you gone to a restaurant and gotten water? It's great. Water is more healthy and it's free! What if they started charging you a dollar for water? Outrage! But...what if that dollar went to providing water for those who don't?

Please watch:

A revolutionary idea! Your one dollar can provide fresh, clean water for someone for 40 days!

Here is another Tap Project promotional video produced by BYU students:

I know that you are so excited to go get some water...right? Find a restaurant near you that participates!

Hernan Bas

I came across this contemporary artist, Hernan Bas. He is from Florida and graduated from the New World School of the Arts in 1996. His paintings are influenced by romanticism, imaginative worlds that personify romance and pleasure.  These scenes are places of fantasy one dreams of escaping to leaving the world in which we live behind.

Dress Like an Artwork!

For my Art Education class we had the opportunity to dress up as an Artist or an Art Work.  I decided to go with one of my favorite artists Piet Mondrian.  The specific piece I modeled after is Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow made in 1930.  The object was to find new and fun ways to teach art history.

Wowsa!

I'll admit that the Harry Potter books have already found a place in my heart. But these covers have just earned this series a new, more aesthetic niche within my heart.

Love?

To Those
To those with true love.
To those who give daily.
To those who are sincere.
To those who sacrifice.
To Those.
To those pained by absence.
To those who forgive.
To those who are true.
To those who try.
To Those.
To those not afraid.
To those who wait.
To those who are willing
To those who need no holiday.
To Those.

Just been thinking about

Bob Dylan, and the beautiful cue-card concept employed in the subterranean homesick blues video. It's simple, and yet speaks wonders. Just thinking . . .

Double Feature

The Amazing Beirut has left the France of The Flying Club Cup for a pair of EPs released  yesterday.  The first EP is entitled The March of the Zapotec and was recorded in Mexico while the second was recorded in and is entitled Holland. From what I have heard so far it is amazing and lives up to what we all love.

President Obama

History was made today as Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States and first African American President. It has shown a dynamic change of acceptance in the United States.  It was a brief thirty years ago that the African-American race even began to be accepted as equal in this country.  Now this country has elected a President that is African-American. All are interested to see the "Change" that will occur during President Obama's term.

Here is some Obama inspired artwork:

Ocean Without a Shore

New Layout!

In celebration of our year anniversary of this blog being established, I decided to give it a makeover. Enjoy!

Help!

If you haven't seen the amazing Motion Picture "Help!" starring the Beatles, you need to immediately. It is one of the most well done/ridiculous films in history released in 1965. Basically it is a very long music video with a compilation of numbers from the "Help!" album.  It is an amazing chance for those of us that missed "Beatle-mania" to really get to know the Beatles. I recently watched it again and renewed my love and appreciation for these Mop-Tops! One fun fact that some of you might not know, This blog's name is based off lyrics from the song "Help!"

Ben and Zooey

The most amazing thing happened! Two of the greatest individuals on the planet got engaged: Ben Gibbard from the bodacious band, Death Cab for Cutie and Zooey Deschanel the actress in movies such as Elf and singer in the group, She & Him.  They are such wonderful people and it is awesome that they are coming together. They better make some beautiful music together. Congratulations!

Cool Animation

Engagement photos . . . with balloons

i saw these lovely photos linked from another blog,
And i knew that I needed to put them up . . . they are rather lovely and clever.
i know we've discussed the idea of props, and the singular prop is very well utilized.
i also like the unique location-the photos look very fun, yet capture the essence of who the couple is . . . which is the point right?
Plus, the side by sides are really nice. They're similar enough to allow for some consistency and parallelism, yet each captures a different aspect of the two.
Ta-da! I hope you enjoy this couple's very clever, unique, yet digestable shoot.
