Tally Hall Concert

Last night I saw Tally Hall Perform.  I was pleasantly suprised to find that the opening groups were just as exciting.    The opening band was called Carolina Liar.  I unfortunately only caught their closing number so no pictures.  That number I was so impressed with that I purchased their album.  It has turned out to be as good as expected.  They are an alternative band with a bit of electronica.  Here is that closing number I heard them preformed.

Following them was one of the most fun groups I've seen in a while called De Novo Dahl.  They are an indie experimental group from Tennessee.  They had the most amazing outfits and I didn't get a good shot of them so I borrowed this picture from their website.   I didn't love their music, but their performance was superb.  One of their songs was simply for dancing and had a very upbeat bass riff that set ya groovin'.

Last but not least was Tally Hall.  They are very entertaining with their matching black pants and different solid color ties.  They are quite enjoyable with their goofy lyrics and witty comments.   They have songs that range frrom subjects of the being in love with the Olsen twins to sweet serenades to babies being born.  The singing styles varies from hip hop to ballads.   I am most impressed with their harmonies not only perfected on their album, but also done impressively well live.  Most groups don't live up to the tight harmonies produced in a studio, but Tally Hall certainly does.  Here is a great example of those harmonies.

LIGHTS!!!!

Some of you may have watched a "good" Old Navy commercial in the past few weeks because of an amazing song used in it.  This is none other then the talented "Lights" otherwise known as
Valerie Poxleitner.  This 20 year old keytarist has an amazing voice and catchy synth beats.   She originates from Canada and is hitting America like a Home Run.  She has an EP on iTunes called Lights EP.  It includes four songs.   Here is one from that EP.

Two Scoops of Woody Please

Last weekend, my sister had a friend over, and suddenly something amazing happened, and some cinematic amazingness was popped in. I'll admit, I am not really up to date on Mr. Allen's canon of works, But I loved film. There was plenty of Woody-stuttering as the great Strandovini, but I don't care. I laughed, every time he was on screen. Hugh was as charming as ever, though a murderer (and was good at it.) And Scarlett Johansson made being average seem fantastic, as they attempted to mask her exquisite beauty.

The Fountain

Last night I watched an amazing film.  It has been a while since I've seen a film of this credibility.  It stars the incomparable Hugh Jackman as well as Rachel Weisz.   It is definitley a thinker and every detail is important to the experience.  The film uses a range of elements to add to the emotion, such as color, shape, and light.  The film portrays three story lines in sequence.  All three main charactersof the stories are played by Jackman.   It is said that the relationship between the three stories are up to interpretation.   With this in mind, one will receive different thoughts on the basic plot of the movie.  My personal interpretation is that the story is essentially about a man that learns struggling with the concept of death, motivated by the terminal illness of his wife.  This is I feel the main story line and is supported by the two others.  I highly recommend this film and its deep thought provoking nature.  I love moives like these where you are still thinking about it and trying figuring it all out weeks later and is recycled at each additional viewing.  A true masterpiece!

Wolftron

I discovered this amazing artist yesterday.  With some research I discovered that it was a solo project for Kenny Choi the lead singer for Daphne Loves Derby.  Flesh and Fears was released on the 6th of this month.   While Daphne Loves Derby is alternative rock, Wolftron is more indie acoustic with frequent piano.   There are amazing harmonies.    Choi has an amazing soft voice that soothes and serenades.   A few songs eloquently incorporate strings to heighten the emotion of the songs.  The harmonies in each song are amazing with sometime three part harmonies all performed by Choi.  This album is well worth a buy.

Narrow Stairs

Narrow Stairs, Death Cab's New album, finally came out.  It is amazing.  Once again, this amazing band has out done themselves.  Each song is amazing and unique.  It is a bit of a new sound on some songs, but still the classic Death Cab that we all love.  One of my new favorite songs is "No Sunlight."  It is fun and has a catchy chorus.  "Bixby Canyon Bridge" starts soft, but goes into a rougher chorus with distorted guitars.  It reminds me of their older material.  "You Can Do Better Than Me" has a marchy beat with some fun organ.  "Grapevines Fire" is a bit more of a ballad, with a soothing chorus. "Pity and Fear" is a bit of a different sound with an acoustic guitar for rhythm and then a guitar mimicking the melody sung by Gibbard, but I really like it.  I would highly recommend it to all.

August Rush

How have I lived this long without seeing this movie? I was uplifted by not only the original story, but the music-oh my goodness-every bit of it was stunning. What I was most affected by was the light motif that permeated the entire film. The notion of personal enlightenment correlating with the inspiration of music was magnificent. And Freddie Highmore was marvelous, what a gifted young man he is.

Admittedly, I am not the prodigy that August is, but this film exposed a formerly unknown realm of music and sound itself to me. Anyone who has any interest in music at all should-no, must-see this stunning piece of cinema.

Chauntelle Dupree Demo

We all know the amazing band which is Eisley exemplified by the vocal talents of Sherri and Stacey Dupree.  But what about their oldest sister Chauntelle?  Why does she not sin? When are we going to hear her?  Well you are in luck because I recently found a demo of Chauntelle called "One More Day with You".  It is amazing.  It was recorded by none other then  the "mmm bop"pers themselves, the Hanson boys.  I love this song.  Hopefully Chauntelle will release more solo work.

Fun Fact: Chauntelle is engaged to Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday!

Violet Hill

On April 30, the single Violet Hill was released from Coldplay's upcoming album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Violet Hill contains distorted guitar riffs and bluesy undertones.    It was made available free for download from their website for one week, until it becomes commercially available to download on May 6.  Viva la Vida will be released the 16th of June.  Some might be curious to the distinct album title.  It is said that this album was heavily influenced from their tour of South and Central America.

Cut Copy

Think the amazingness of the 80's is just on "Best of" CD's? Guess again. Cut Copy from Melbourne Australia has hit America with their new album In Ghost Colours. Every song has amazing beats and synthesizers and is "excellent for dancing". They played were in my area last night, and I had to work. I am pretty bummed. Hopefully I'll get another chance to bust a move, show some grooves at a Cut Copy concert. Above is their single, Lights and Music. It is a fun video. Enjoy.
